Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is DCR Graph?

DCR Graph is a process modeling tool. As a process modeling tool it captures the business process logic and uses a constraint-based notation to map the process into workflows.

Q2: What can DCR Graph be used for?

Process models such as DCR Graph can be used as the process engine of systems. This is effective for systems such as knowledge work systems e.g. ACM systems.

Q3: Who can use

Everyone can create their own graphs using Creating an account is free.

Q4: How do I create a graph?

To create a graph, login to the DCR tool through Once logged in, pressing the button ‘New Graph’ will take you to the Graph Designer.

Q5: Do I have to save my graph?

No. The graph will automatically save everytime new changes are made. The automatic saves creates a revision history of the graph, which can be accessed in the graph editor.

Q6: Can I test my graph to see if it works?

Yes. A simulation tests the graph as to what is possible to do. The graph can be simulated by multiple people at the same time by delegating them roles. It is also possible to delegate a role to the computer. Once a simulation is completed, it can be saved and used later to rerun the semulation and see if it is still possible to complete the same execution.

Q7: How do I use Apps in the DCR Tool?

To enable Apps, go to the app store in the DCR Tool by clicking on profile in the top right corner. In the app store, all published apps can be enabled and disabled. To access an app in the graph editor, click Apps in the menu bar of in the top of the graph editor.

Q8: How can I give others access to my graph?

There are two ways of sharing a graph. Graphs can be shared privately with friends from in the DCR tool. First invite your friend to the DCR Tool, and then add them to your graph. There is also the option of making a graph public and available for everyone to access. Doing so will make it appear under ‘Public Graphs’.. Graphs and simulations can be shared publically on Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+. You can also get a web address url that can be emailed or embedded in a web page as a reference to the graph or the simulation. For further explanation, visit Social Sharing. Either way, you choose if others can edit or not

Q9: Can I work with others on the same graph in real time?

Unfortunately not.

Q10: I want to contribute and be part of the DCR community! How do I do it?

DCR Graph is build on community sharing. To develop and evolve DCR Graph there is always a need of more hands. Creating graphs for others to use, making them public is a great way to start. Take part of the community by liking or commentating other graphs. It is also possible to create new apps in the app store.

Q11: Can I create my own case management system using DCR Graph?

Yes. A Process Engine and the DCR Repository is available for developers. Please also read about Open Case Manager, an open source simple case management system that outlines how DCR graphs are used.

Q12: Can fields in a DCR Form have syntactic validation such as length and type?

Yes. Please read more about DCR Forms for details.

Q13: Trying to view a graph I get the error Something Went Wrong. Why can’t I view the graph?

Even though graphs might be shared with you, you cannot always view them. A graph belong to a specific organization. All users are member of the common organization “Community”, but many users are also member of other organizations. You must be in the same organization as the graph in order to view and edit this. Change your organisation to solve the problem.
